THE LANDING BLUEPRINT: 4 Keys for How To Land Safely In Parkour

You may think that parkour is all about those extreme moves – climbing a wall, jumping from bar to bar, or leaping over the box. That’s half of the reality. The most important key in this sport is how to land safely. Besides protecting yourself from many jumps, this technique also increases your control, and you will understand how you move and passively think about what’s next. Today, MPG will take you through what you need to know about landing.

4 Keys for How To Land Safely In Parkour

Β

1. Touchdown: Your toes are springboards

When you land on the ball of your foot, your Achilles and calf muscles will absorb the shockwave. Don’t land on your heels, as the shockwave will go straight to your spine instead.

2. Absorb: tuck your knees and hips

This will spread the impact when you act in a squat position. The shock will go to your quads. Keep your knees in the same direction as your feet and keep your body straight.

3. Stabilize: Your arms are a helper for balance.

Extend your arms forward or to both sides for counterbalance when you land. In this case, your strong core will control your body so it does not lean forward or backward.

4. Roll: How to do it

Safety Roll is usually used when you jump from two metres or higher (or depending on your consideration). After you do the three tips above, you can roll on your shoulder at a 45-degree angle to spread the impact. You have to put the weight on your shoulder so the roll can be performed easily.

See, every jump has to end with a controlled and stable landing. You know how to land safely in parkour. These tips can protect you at any time. Don’t forget to protect yourself!
