PARKOUR Movement: Speed and Power

β€œJust moving counts as exercise.” This was part of a campaign by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) that you might have heard of before. The famous campaign is to encourage people to be more physically active. For the same reason, parkour also focuses on movement and using the body in real-life situations, just like in a competitive environment. Although many people view parkour movement as cool moves seen on social media, the foundation of this sport is actually about using speed and power effectively. In other words, it’s like two systems working together to create movement in real life. Today, MPG will talk about right movements and how it works in your daily life.

Power is preparation to create space

The key is preparing to release energy to create space where we need our body to explode with force toward targets. Moving from one point to another is not only about speed, but about combining different types of technique together.

Speed is touch and go

Another element that works together with power is speed. Each movement requires contact or touch to spring and launch forward, creating the smooth flow that we are familiar with in parkour.

Power and speed are the language of parkour movement

As we mentioned above, we didn’t talk about cool moves or spectacle flow in parkour. It’s the real foundation that comes from understanding your body and moving the way you intend to. Using two essential skillsβ€”power and speedβ€”at the right moment, so your body will be ready to move and continue forward, allowing your body to move naturally in life.

You might already adapt parkour skills every day. Understanding our bodies means being ready to move and keep going at all times.
